Madagascar President Escapes Assassination Attempt 

Madagascar claims to have foiled an assassination attempt on its President, two French arrested

The Malagasy public prosecutor’s office announced that it had foiled an assassination attempt on the President of this Republic, Andry Rajoelina, and arrested several “foreign and Malagasy” people. Among those arrested are two French, reports AFP.

The Malagasy public prosecutor’s office announced that it had foiled an assassination attempt on the President of this Republic, Andry Rajoelina, and arrested several “foreign and Malagasy” people.

Among those arrested on Tuesday “as part of an investigation for endangering state security” are two French people, AFP learned from a diplomatic source.

“Several foreign and Malagasy nationals were arrested Tuesday as part of an investigation for attacking state security,” Attorney General Berthine Razafiarivony told reporters Wednesday evening.

An elimination plan

“According to the material evidence in our possession, these individuals have devised a plan for the elimination and neutralization of various Malagasy personalities, including the head of state,” she said.

“At this stage of the ongoing investigation, the general prosecutor’s office ensures that all the light will be shed,” she added.

During the celebration of Madagascar’s independence day, on June 26, the gendarmerie had already announced that it had foiled an assassination attempt by the Secretary of State in charge of the gendarmerie, the right-hand man of the President, General Richard Ravalomanana .
