Why I Am Running For NFF Presidency – Ex-Super Eagles Player, Akwuegbu

A former Super Eagles player, Benedict Akwuegbu has declared his intention to run for the Presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Akwuegbu made this disclosure during a chart with the press on Wednesday.

Sources gathered that the NFF election has been fixed to hold later this year.

But, Akwuegbu, the former U17 and U 23 player while speaking, disclosed that his desire to run for the NFF Presidency was to qualify the country for the World Cup.

Akwuegbu, who won the African Nations Cup for Nigeria, maintained that his focus as NFF President will be on grassroot football development.

The former technical director of Mighty Jets Football Club, explained that Nigeria is a top football nation.

He promised that he was ready to work with all football stakeholders in the country.

He said, “Nigeria is a top football nation and if elected, I hope to improve on this so that the country can be ranked among the football nations in the world.

“I have the template to run and revamp the national league and I also want to qualify the country for the World Cup and win it for the first time.

“I played the game to managerial position and as such will be ready to be the president of the federation. I am ready to work with all stakeholders in football in the country, in order to make Nigeria football great and be reckoned with, not only on the continent, but the world at large”.
